MOST FREQUENT PROBLEMS IN THE REPAIR/ASSEMBLY PROCESS OF WINDOW REGULATORS
A-1. The mechanism doesn't go up.
It can be a problem of the engine or some other element.
First, you need to check the condition and operation of the engine, which may have been damaged.
You can do this by connecting the engine with the cable coming from the switch that activates the system, so we make sure that the power reaches the engine and that this last one works.
If the engine goes up and down properly, we will have to check the condition of the guides, which can be damaged and prevent the window regulator from going up. You must clean the guides carefully and lubricate them with a silicone spray.
If the system still does not work after these checks, try to remove the window regulator from the door and if it continues to fail even once extracted from the door, the door cable may not be properly wrapped in the engine coil and prevent it from working.
At this point, please go to one of our distributors and ask to change the window regulator with a new one, Algo will then analyze the product and inform you about problem’s nature.
A-2. - The window regulator stops or suddenly reverses the ride.
The system has not been reset properly, see “how to program a control unit with comfort system” (C-2)
A-3. - Why, even after programming the control unit, does the window regulator stops and reverses the ride?
The control unit measures friction above the safety limit (as if a hand were about to be pinched). The cause may be due to:
A3.1Incorrect adjustment of crystal plates (if expected) or any other adjustments required for proper operation.
A3.2Misplaced glass sliding seals: check that the housing is correct within the planned trails.
A3.3Dirty guides. Remove, clean and lubricate with graphite powder or silicone spray. (Note: Never use grease or oil.).
A3.4Rusty or warped guides. This process deforms them and makes it difficult to lift and descend the glass, repair the guides, if possible, or change them if much damaged.
A3.5Worn out or deteriorated rubber profiles. Replace them with new ones.
A3.6Out-of-position door seal that makes impossible the glass mounting.
A-4. - Why, despite being new, does the window lifter makes noise or rises slowly and trembles?
- The reason may be that the Glass Sliding seals are out of position: check that the housing is correct.
- The seals can be dirty: remove and clean them and, if necessary, lubricate them with graphite powder or silicone spray (Note: never use grease or oil).
- Worn or deteriorated rubber profiles.. Replace them with new ones.
- Deteriorated door seals
- Rust somewhere in the door, which creates a deformation and makes it impossible to move the glass properly.
If these points are not checked during the assembly, from time to time the system can rise more and more hardly. This generates an excess of voltage in the cable that causes its deformation and all the elements of the window lifter undergo an excessive effort, starting to produce noises and ending with a premature breakdown of the product.
A-5. - The engine cannot be mounted on the mechanism. Why?
The mechanisms only fit original motors.
The vehicle may have already been repaired in the past. If the product assembled at that time was a system with motor and now you want to change the mechanism only, the problem is not the mechanism but the motor, which is not the original one.
In this case you cannot replace the mechanism only, but you need to replace the entire system with the motor (the old motor cannot be reused).
A-6. - The system goes up jerkly.
If it is a comfort system, the movements of the control unit may not have been deleted correctly.
Reprogram the system. Check “how to program a comfort-based control unit”(C-2).
If it is a normal window regulator or a mechanism, check all the elements of the door (see points A-3-1 to A-3-6).
A-7. - The window lifter does not go up or down (it is an electric window regulator with motor)
Check that the current reaches the switch that activates the mechanism and then the window lifter.
If after that process the motor still does not work, contact your distributor and replace it with another one.
Algo will analyze the product and inform you about the problem’s nature.
A-8. - Do the window regulators also mount on station wagon versions?
In general, window lifters mount both versions. Otherwise, the specific templates are indicated within Algo’s catalog/website. www.algo.it
TIPS FOR A CORRECT REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF A WINDOW REGULATOR OR PART OF THE SYSTEM
C-1. - The window regulator you bought is not the same as the original.
All the window regulators that Algo provides are perfectly adaptable and interchangeable with the originals, they are actually designed to be fixed always at the same fasteners as the originals. You do not need to make new holes for installation. For scissor or arm systems, please do not activate the window regulator outside the vehicle door. It is unset and therefore you can have serious problems at the time of installation on the door.
C-2.- How do I program a comfort-system control unit?
Programming the comfort control unit
There is no equipment to reset the system..
1- Disconnect the battery from the vehicle for at least 5 minutes. This process causes the stored movements to be erased before the break of the window lifter.
2 - Assemble the window regulator following the instructions provided with the product. Before setting the glass fasteners, connect the window regulator and adjust it to make sure it rises and lowers properly, without tightening it completely (the test offset should be only a few centimeters, not completely, always leaving it correctly positioned for possible manipulation).
3 - Lower the window lifter to the lowest point by constantly holding down without releasing the switch until the end of the run, hold it for a few seconds, we will hear how the relay jumps and the system stops (with this we read the lowest point where the glass should go down).
4 - Raise the window lifter to the highest point by gently pressing the switch until the end of the run, hold it for a few seconds, we will hear how the relay jumps and the system stops (at this point we can read the highest point where the glass should rise).
5 -After steps 3 and 4 raise and lower the system completely 2/3 times so that the mechanism is fixed and check that there is no excessive friction in the glass slide, then permanently tighten the glass fasten bolts.
After this process is completed, you must configure items affected by battery disconnection, such as the Radio.
Programming the comfort system with the use of machinery
1 - Assemble the window lifter according to the instructions provided with the product; to ensure the glass fasteners, link the connector to the electrical system. After waiting about 5 seconds turn the starter key and provide electricity to the system.
2 - Lift and lower the glass completely 2/3 times so that the mechanism is located and check there is no excessive friction in the slip of the glass, then tighten the fastening bolts.
3 - Before programming the control unit, it is essential to connect the car to the diagnostic device to eliminate any old error messages still in memory on the vehicle. Failure to delete these messages does not guarantee that the Comfort system will work properly
4 - Lower the window lifter to the lowest point by constantly holding down without releasing the switch until it reaches the end of the run,hold it down for a few seconds, we will hear how the relay jumps and the system stops (at this point we can read the lowest point at which the glass should go down).
5 - Raise the window lifter to the highest point by gently pressing the switch until the end of the run, hold it for a few seconds, we will hear how the relay jumps and the system stops (at this point we can read the highest point where the glass should rise). If it still doesn't work correctly, repeat (3-4-5) after disconnecting the connector from the electrical system and reconnecting it after at least 5 seconds.
C-3. - Why, after programming the control unit, the window regulator at some point stops and changes direction of the ascent?
Because the control unit measures friction above the safety limit (as if a hand were about to be pinched). The cause may be due to:
- Incorrect adjustment of the glass clamps (where provided) or any other adjustments necessary for proper operation.
- Sliding glass seals misplaced: check the correct housing within the provided routes.
- Dirty seals. Remove, clean and possibly lubricate with graphite powder or silicone spray. (Note: never use grease or oil, this could irreparably damage rubber seals).
- Worn seals. Replace them with new seals.
MORE FREQUENT ISSUES IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING A HANDLE:
1 -The handle gets stuck and does not return correctly to the original position.
The fastening screws on the door have been tightened too tightly: loosen them and tighten them again gradually
2 - The key cylinder to be replaced does not fit in the hole of the original handle.
It is likely that inside the hole of the handle remained residue of the old damaged cylinder: be sure to remove and clean the seat.
3 - Once mounted the handle does not open the lock
Check that the cables and/or rods are properly attached to both the handle and the lock.
4 - Why, despite being the handle new, activating the opening lever is it "tough"?
The reason may be that the friction and/or sliding components (springs, leverages, etc.) are fat-free: if necessary, lubricate them with graphite powder or silicone spray.
5 - Is the handle you bought the same as the original?
All the handles that Algo provides are perfectly adaptable and interchangeable with the originals, also because they have an aesthetic importance, so they are equal and use the same materials as the original handles.
